Die Ostseesturmflut Oktober 2023 in Schleswig-Holstein
Keywords:
Baltic Sea, Storm Surge, HydrologySynopsis
The 2023 Baltic Sea storm surge was the strongest storm surge event in more than 100 years in large parts of Schleswig-Holstein's Baltic Sea coast. The water level and sea conditions that occurred are compared with the existing planning bases and statistically classified. As a result, the recurrence interval of the impact with regard to the water level and the impact variable relevant for the coastal defences, combined impact water level and waves, is to be assessed as less than once in 100 years.
The long-term coastal protection strategy of the state of Schleswig-Holstein is explained on the basis of the overall Baltic Sea Coast Strategy 2100. Morphological evaluations could not be included in the article, as the relevant data were not yet available at the time of going to press.
