Documentation of storm surge damage in Großenbrode, Sütel and Süssau

The severe storm surge of October 20, 2023 caused very extensive damage to the coastal protection systems (foreshore, dunes, revetments, breakwaters), cliff areas and water-side infrastructure systems (yacht harbors) on the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast and especially in the communities of Großenbrode, Sütel and Süsau , promenade). This article documents excerpts of this storm surge-related damage in the communities of Großenbrode, Sütel and Süsau, names examples of the possible causes of damage and provides infor-mation and recommendations that can be transferred to other coastal sections if necessary.
