The severe storm surge on October 20, 2023 not only affected the coastal defense systems along the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast, but also affected numerous marinas. The location of the port played a decisive role with regard to the impact. Unprotected ports exposed to the east, such as Maasholm and Damp, were particularly affected. The Baltic Sea storm surge caused major damage to the port infrastructure (breakwaters, revetments, promenade, jetties) in the Damp marina. This article documents excerpts from this storm surge-related damage, names examples of the likely causes of the damage and provides information and recommendations that can also be applied to other marinas.
